Northern Wide Plank (NWP), a leader in the high-end hardwood flooring industry, has introduced their latest product innovation. PureCraft is a new 3-layer engineered hardwood construction composed of 100% solid wood, it is structurally stable, environmentally sustainable, and is suitable for any interior environment.

The introduction of this PureCraft 3-layered construction further aligns with the goals of NWP to create some of the most exclusive, organic engineered wood products, while centering on their sustainability and cutting-edge innovation. “With this new construction, our clients can expect the same high-end finishes, wide range of widths, and artisanal craftsmanship that has defined the NWP brand.” Notes NWP National Sales Manager, John Nagtzaam, “all NWP products will maintain their current sustainability certifications, such as The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification upon request, MAS Certified Green, and Declare labels through the International Living Future Institute. Homeowners, designers, architects, and other design professionals can now enjoy a 100% made in Canada product, further reducing our carbon footprint for the environment.”

Commenting on the product's attributes, NWPs Co-Founder and CEO, Shawn Peebles said: “This new 3-layer construction has exceeded expectations in testing. PureCraft’s performance attributes have shown excellent flatness and humidity resistance results, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this with our clients.”

NWPs new PureCraft construction consists of 3-layers, and based on the width of the plank, is composed of 2 or 3 wood species, with an industry leading thickness, up to 20mm (3/4 in). Depending on the product specifications, the top wear layer will be made from a single solid hardwood up to 6mm thick. The middle layer is made from solid hardwood slats that run in the opposite direction, limiting movement while allowing the top and bottom layers to expand and contract as one. The bottom layer is designed to equalize the forces caused by moisture related changes in dimension. The layers are bonded with a high-strength elastomeric 100% VOC-free adhesive with no added formaldehyde, making it an entirely unique construction.

“PureCraft hardwood materials are responsibly sourced,” stated Jamie Peebles, NWP Co-Founder and Director. “This means that they have been sourced from sustainably managed forests, ensuring that the forests are not overharvested, and that the environment is protected. The importance for a local North American manufactured and sourced product could not be emphasized enough. From beginning to end the process produces a truly sustainable product, reducing our emissions and our environmental impact by leveraging our North American resources.”

PureCraft is designed to maintain the same precise tolerances as the day it’s installed; its unique 3-layer construction offers reliable performance with the ability to withstand changes in temperature, moisture content, and humidity levels ranging from 30%-65%. “PureCraft has been designed to not only meet the industry standards, but exceed them,” explains Jamie Peebles. “Coupled with the emphasis on a sustainable process, you have a tailored solution that aligns with our goals and core values as a company.”
