SUSTAINABILITY IS AT THE CORE OF EVERYTHING WE DO
As a family-owned and operated Canadian manufacturer that has deep roots to our commitment to the environment, we take pride in utilizing sustainable and local forests within 500 miles of our workshop in North America. By doing so, we not only reduce our carbon footprint but also support local communities and ecosystems.
HEALTHY PRODUCTS
The materials, methods, and processes we put in place, are all focused on investing in a sustainable future. Our hardwoods are sourced from responsible forests, and our natural oils are low emitting, with no added VOCs , while prioritizing the most renewable wood species.
TRANSPARENT INGREDIENTS
In partnership with the International Living Future Institute , our North American made products are registered with the Institute and are Declare Certified.
A Declare Label is a nutritional label for building products and is designed as a quick guide to help identify products that meet specific standards. Declare labels disclose all intentionally added ingredients and residuals at above 100 ppm (0.01%) present in the final product by weight.

Europe
The EU has introduced legal measures to protect its woodlands and forests, and these days more trees are being planted than felled. It’s great news for the future, with EU forests growing instead of diminishing. Because the law places a minimum requirement on replacing harvested trees as well as limiting annual harvests .
Canada
In Canada, we take the conservation and protection of our forests seriously. Canada has more forested areas than nearly any other country in the world , and forests are central to our heritage, culture, environment, and economy.
Canada ensures conservation and protection through sustainable forest management practices and strict national laws.
Sustainable practices and strict laws conserve and protect Canada’s forests . The primary goal of Canada’s forest conservation and protection efforts is to preserve the health of our country’s wide range of forest ecosystems. In Canada, forest land outside of formal protected areas is safeguarded by the laws, regulation, and policies that all provinces, territories, and federal governments have developed to enforce sustainable forest management across the country.

SUSTAINABLE WOOD SPECIES
Most Northern Wide Plank products have a top layer made from North American white oak or European oak , while only a few of our products are made from Walnut or Reclaimed woods, which also offer many sustainable advantages.
Our new PureCraft 3-layer construction is made up of various local materials such as Maple .
Oak is one of the most sustainable wood species . Most newly harvested oak originates in Britain, Europe, the USA, and Australia.
White oak however is most prominent in the eastern half of the United States, with the exception of Florida and areas along the Gulf Coast. Varieties of white oak also grow in Oregon and California. Although white oak is a slow growing oak, it is still a very sustainable material when harvested responsibly.

Maple is one of the most abundant trees in Eastern North America . Growing from Newfoundland to Miami, and as far west as Minnesota, red maple is one of the most abundant trees in eastern North America. Silver maple (Acer saccharinum) is native to inland areas of the eastern United States. More northerly in its range, the Sugar maple (Acer saccharum) is an important tree in Canada. The leaf of the sugar maple proudly adorns the Canadian flag.
WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT SUSTAINABLE WOODS?
Forests cover approximately 30 percent of the earth's land area. Sustainably managed forests are productive and resilient ecosystems. They provide people with livelihoods and renewable energy, along with timber, food, shelter, clean air, water, and climate benefits.
Buying sustainable wood is one way you can support the future of the planet’s forests and, at the same time, protect the future for our children.
